Sustainable skincare - 5 easy swaps

An easy way to consume less and waste less is to switch to more sustainable skincare. Of course, you don't need to replace everything, too many options can leave you feeling overwhelmed! Here are my 5 top tips for making the switch today:-

  1. Consider which parts of your routine create unnecessary waste, e.g. if you currently use disposable cleansing wipes, and single-use cotton pads think about switching to a cleansing balm and reuseable face cloth, so you're immediately reducing waste to landfill. You'll also benefit from gorgeous botanicals that work in harmony with your skin barrier gently melting away makeup, grime and pollutants without stripping your skin of natural oils.

  2. Think about investing in a hero product that you can use in more than one way, e.g. a multitasking booster oil is something you'll use every day whether it's a couple of drops to soothe your skin, soften your hands, or define your curls and smooth the ends of your hair. You could even keep in on your bedside table for a soothing face massage to relax you at the end of a stressful day.

  3. Another way to approach it is to start with the product you use most often in your routine, e.g. a hydrating serum or face cream; that way, you'll see the most significant and quickest benefit to your skin and the environment.

  4. Be ingredient savvy, avoid palm oil and instead look out for upcycled, organic or wild harvested ingredients. You'll find upcycled Raspberry Seed Oil and Brazillian Murumuru Butter in Revive Multi-action Face Cream, certified-organic Castor, Safflower, Sacha Inchi, Lavender and Rosemary in Reset Cleansing Balm and ethically harvested Columbian Kahai Oil in Restore Radiance Booster. You can enjoy soothing, hydrating and protective qualities of these ingredients while knowing that ethical standards have been met. By choosing your skincare carefully, you directly contribute to a cleaner planet.

  5. Switch to eco-friendly packaging. Choose skincare products where the packaging can be recycled, reused or composted. Pamoja skincare is packaging in Miron Violetglass which is not only recyclable many times over and can be reused - just send back your empties to me and I'll reuse them in a new batch or you can keep them and e.g. use the empty jars to store spices and seeds in your kitchen. My delivery packaging is made from sustainable paper and waste from a UK mill; it's 100% plastic-free, reusable and biodegradable - even the tape is vegan friendly!
